Rise during the night and cry out. Pour out your hearts like water to the Lord. Lift up your hands to him in prayer, pleading for your children… - Lamentations 2:19
Parenting is one of the highest callings on earth. When done well, it’s also one of the most difficult. A parent’s job is to provide everything a child needs to grow, learn and thrive. This includes, of course, a safe environment, food, clothing, healthcare, education, opportunities, protection from harm, as well as unconditional love and support. The job is round-the-clock. And although trusted babysitters offer periodic breaks, the mantle of responsibility never leaves a parent’s shoulders.
There are many resources today to assist in parenting well, but none are greater than this: prayer—with a humble heart in the presence of God.
Parents, you have the ability to ask for wisdom and guidance from the true source of both—to bring every parenting issue that arises to the One who has complete sovereignty over all situations—and to pour out your hearts like water before the Lord for your children when you face challenges beyond yourself. Time with God in prayer is key to parenting well and can result in one of the most rewarding endeavors in life.
CLOSING PRAYER
Father God, thank you for loving my children and wanting the best for them, just as I do. Please give me wisdom and insight to parent them well, moment by moment each day. Refresh me with renewed energy and guide me as I navigate every parenting challenge ahead. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
