Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. - Psalm 119:105
My family and I love to camp. We love to explore the beauty of God’s creation in nature. We have camped for decades and have accumulated all the necessary gear. One of the basic essentials is a flashlight—because when nighttime falls in the wilderness. . . it gets dark. Very dark. That’s when the beam of a flashlight enables you to see not only where you’re standing but just enough distance ahead to allow you to walk forward—and to do it without fear of what you might bump into!
In our everyday lives, God’s Word—the Bible—serves much like that flashlight. It shows us where we stand in our relationship with God and can give insight on what’s happening in our current lives. Are we honoring God in our actions, behaviors and attitudes? Are there things that need changing or correcting?
His Word also guides and directs the steps we should take as we journey through life. It gives us just enough insight to be able to move forward, one step at a time with confidence to overcome fear. And, just like my flashlight in the dark, although I can’t see the entirety of the path in front of me, I can trust that there will be enough light to show me the way when I get there. God’s Word is faithful like that.
If you’re uncertain about where you stand presently or what steps you should take moving ahead, open your Bible and invite God’s Word to be your guiding light.
A CLOSING PRAYER
Father, thank you for Your Word as a guide for our lives. Thank you that it reveals who You are, how much You love us, and how You sent Your Son to redeem us so we can walk in close relationship with You. Help us to be faithful to Your Word as it instructs, corrects, and shows us the path to abundant life.
