Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. - Psalms 62:2
A few years back, my husband and I were camping in Canyonlands National Park, nestled in the heart of Utah. We made this excursion in the middle of July when it's common for the daily temperature to surpass 100 degrees. Our campsite was remote, deep within the park, and bordered by large stones and steep cliffs. After setting up camp, I climbed up through the surrounding boulders to a very high place.
When I reached the top, weary and extremely hot, I discovered a crevice in-between a few of the massive rocks. Shuffling into the opening, I gazed up at the rock walls towering around me. Their height shadowed me from the scorching sun. The reprieve was refreshing. I was protected from the afternoon’s intense heat and able to rest in the cool air captured between the rocks.
Literally standing in a Biblical metaphor, I was flooded with memories of God’s protection, provision and faithfulness throughout my life. I lifted my eyes to the blue sky overhead, overwhelmed with gratitude and tears.
God is your everlasting Rock. He is your unshakable security in times of stress and your mountain of strength when you are vulnerable. You may not have physical rocks to take refuge in, but our God brings His presence near wherever you are and whenever you call on Him. His love for you is deeper than the Grand Canyon and higher than Mount Everest!
CLOSING PRAYER
Dear Lord, may every boulder we encounter and every pebble under our feet, remind us that You are our Rock of refuge…the One that gives us protection and strength. Thank you for Your never-ending faithfulness.
