Giving Multiplied

Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God. - 2 Corinthians 9:11

I am not a gardener by any means. My few attempts to grow flowers were met by hungry deer who devoured every one of my tasty plants. But shortly after moving to the country, I was captivated by a purple perennial I observed along the roadways. For a brief time every summer, these tall, stately flowers—which I learned are called lupines—transform ordinary ditches into lush, botanical gardens, stunning everyone passing by.

After my enthusiasm for this wildflower spilled over into conversation, I was blessed with a friend who shared a small lupine plant with me.  Despite my lack of gardening skills, I pushed the single sprout into the dirt at the entrance of our driveway and gave it little thought after. The next spring, to my surprise, it blossomed beautifully and has continued to do so every year, propagating so greatly that it has become a spectacle of color, stretching the length of a football field!

What started as a simple gesture from a friend has become an annual festival of beauty where I live, making my heart soar with gratitude and reminding me that much can come from a single act of giving.

ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS

When we share good things with others, whether it’s a plant from our garden, some homemade bread, a helping hand with a house project or time spent over a cup of coffee, we are living out the gospel in a tangible way. We never know how much even the simplest act of giving may impact someone else or multiply in ways we’ve never even imagined. So don’t hold back in blessing those around you. It may just start something spectacular.
