Seeing the Invisible

For we walk by faith, not by sight. - 2 Corinthians 5:7

I remember as a kid wondering what it would be like to have a super-power. You know, like the kind you see in films featuring heroes with abilities to fly through through the air, bend objects of steel or even manipulate the weather. It sounds fantastic and it certainly makes for entertaining movie-watching. But what if I told you, that as a follower of Jesus, you have been given a real capacity to see what is invisible to others. I’m not talking about seeing through concrete buildings like Superman’s x-ray vision. I’m talking about the ability to see things clearly in your heart that cannot be seen with mere eyes.

On our journey of faith, with the power of the Holy Spirit, we begin seeing life through a faith-based worldview. We see God’s hand at work in our lives and the lives around us. We see how God is making Himself known to us through His written word and the peace He instills in us. Our faith assures us of God’s promises with a certainty that goes beyond physical sight. The more our relationship with Him grows, the more spiritual sight we’re given. We see things that others miss as we learn to live our lives with hope and trust.

CLOSING PRAYER

Father in heaven, thank you for the gifts you give us in Christ. Open our eyes to see with spiritual sight all the blessings around us and an awareness of Your presence and activity. Free our vision of things that would distract us so we always have a clear sightline towards You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
