Share Your Cake

And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. - Hebrews 13:16

My husband has heard me say many times that food tastes better when it's shared. This comes in handy when we’re both eyeing the last decadent piece of chocolate cake. But if you doubt the reality of this saying, let me explain.

God wants us to be generous givers and share with others out of the abundance of what He has given us. The Bible tells us over and over that we should give cheerfully and without expecting repayment. As followers of Jesus, giving should become a natural part of our daily life. Science has actually shown that when we give our brains release chemicals like oxytocin and dopamine, which leave us feeling good—God’s way of adding frosting to our cake!

Although our taste buds may not detect a difference in the food we share, the act of sharing itself will literally make the whole experience more enjoyable. Thus, my conclusion that food tastes better when we share! In fact, life in general tastes better when we share! I may have to make this my new saying.

ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS

This week, let’s think about how we can increase our giving. Can we be more generous with our time? Can we reach deeper into our pockets? Can we think of others first? Can we give more freely without hesitation?
