Here in Minnesota, we’re getting ready for the colors of fall to begin to emerge. The green hues that blanket our valleys and hills will soon transform into warm bouquets of reds and golds. Trees that went unnoticed in their summer attire will suddenly take center stage in their brightly-colored garb. It’s a spectacle unmatched in other seasons here in the midwest and Minnesotans get excited about it. Some of us even leave our local autumn vistas to travel elsewhere in the state to see theirs. We love all the colors, the crisp air, and the graceful dance of the leaves as they eventually flutter to the ground.
Science may describe this foliage phenomenon as chlorophyll degradation. And while that process is certainly occurring, I prefer to think about the masterful creativity behind it all and the brief but breathtaking beauty we witness in-between the bookends of summer and winter.
Seeing this kind of splendor in nature always stirs my thoughts toward God and leaves a resonating sense of awe in my heart at how He delights us with His creation. You may not have the same change-of-season experience where you live, but the nature around you still holds the fingerprints of the Creator and will delight you in its own way if you let it.
Outside my window today, a pair of reddish-orange leaves tease on an otherwise green branch—a sure sign of the splendor to come. We serve a wildly beautiful Creator!
