The Greatest Gift

I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself. -Jeremiah 31:3

My husband is a pilot.  When he takes me flying and we lift off the runway, I watch the trees and buildings shrink until life below is barely perceptible from our altitude. The world looks huge from a mile or more in the sky and human existence becomes minuscule, swallowed up by the the scope of the planet and the curve of the horizon. Even a massive Mac truck barreling down a highway appears less than half the size of a child's Lego block.

It's from these heights that I think about the God who created it all. Somewhere in time He breathed our planet and everything on it into being. To this day nothing on this blue globe escapes Him. Nothing is beyond His vision.  He is passionate about its entirety. So passionate that He doesn’t just observe from afar, but pierces through our atmosphere, reaching every corner and crevice of the earth we live on. He cares for humanity at a cellular level and offers his everlasting love to every human heart. He gave His only Son to save us in the greatest act of love ever known. This is where the greatness of God meets the smallness of mankind.  And with an outstretched hand still baring the scars of His ultimate sacrifice, He calls us to come and receive all He has to give.

ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS

If it’s been awhile since you thought about the greatness of God, His immense love for you and what He sacrificed on your behalf, take some time to sit in that reality. Let it fill you with gratitude and let that spill into praise!
