Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth! Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy. - Psalms 100:1-2
Some people have beautiful voices that make men weep and must melt the hearts of the angels in heaven. Others couldn’t carry a tune if their lives depended on it. And most of us land somewhere in between. But every last one of us can make a joyful noise to the Lord in worship. We’re not asked to be good singers, we’re just asked to be joyful in the process.
Think about this. When our hearts are focussed on God and our mouths are filled with His praise, the sound we make rises above our human limitations and becomes a glorious melody to God’s ears. Yes, God delights in your singing voice! And when believers join their voices, whether in modern choruses or traditional hymns, regardless of skill, the collective praise fills all of heaven with a symphony of joy! There is no sweeter sound in all of creation. We were made to praise this way. Worshipping through song drives the awe of God deep into our souls and galvanizes our faith.
So whether we’re worshipping at church on a Sunday morning or humming a tune over dirty dishes at our kitchen sink, let’s free the songs of praise in our hearts and sing with full abandon to God, who is more than worthy of our praise. He welcomes our joyful noises.
ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS
If you love worshipping God by singing, have at it with unashamed boldness! If you’re shy about singing to God, remember that it’s not how you sing but that you do! Find a quiet place—maybe even a secluded one—to get comfortable singing aloud. Picture God bending near to listen with a warm and loving expression because He loves hearing you. Your voice is uniquely yours—like none other. Sharing it in worship is one of the most beautiful ways you can use it.
