Three-Quarter-Ton Challenge

With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible. - Matthew 19:26

I drive a Mini Cooper. That’s right—a little “clown car” with a go-kart feel and cramped rear seats. I love its compact size and its zippy maneuverability. I got my first Mini Cooper in 2009 and have rarely sat behind the wheel of anything else since—until recently.

While stopping for fuel at a Nebraska gas station on our way home from an amazing Colorado camping trip, my husband took a horrific fall onto concrete that resulted in two broken arms (so thankful it wasn’t even worse!). After getting him the necessary medical care, I was faced with the daunting task of driving our three-quarter-ton pickup—which I had never driven before—while also towing our camper—another first for me! The mere thought of it was terrifying! How would I manage the 721-mile cross-country trek home through traffic, narrow construction zones, and high wind conditions in this tank-sized set-up? And Lord help me…what if I had to back this whole rig up!?!

There was no time for training or test-runs in our circumstances. We just needed to get home to let the healing begin. So, after assisting my husband safely into the passenger seat and securing his seatbelt, I assumed my place behind the massive wheel, asked God to help me, and drove—hour after grueling hour. I navigated between semis, around orange construction cones and across the windy Nebraska plains. When we finally reached our long, gravel driveway I knew I had not driven alone those many miles. I thanked God for his hands next to mine.

ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS

Whenever we face impossible situations, God is right beside us, anxious to empower us beyond our natural abilities as we look to Him. Mountains that are too big to climb—circumstances with no way through them—whatever is utterly impossible for us is never too difficult for God—with Him all things are possible.
