Wait a Minute

I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. - Psalms 130:5

I don’t know anyone that likes to wait. Waiting is counter-cultural in our fast-paced society where next-day shipping, fast-food restaurants, and microwave ovens give us what our human nature desires—having our needs met immediately.

But everyday living comes with lots of waiting. We wait for opportunities to arise, for circumstances to improve, and for answers to prayers. Waiting is part of the human experience and it’s certainly a recurring refrain in the life of a Christian.

So what do we do while we’re waiting? First and foremost, we guard ourselves from the fear that often occurs when we have time to imagine worst-case scenarios. God wants us instead to focus our thoughts on Him, trusting Him completely and experiencing His presence and peace while we wait. Second, we surround ourselves with positive people who encourage us by speaking life into our circumstances through the truth in God’s Word.

If you’ve found yourself currently in a season of waiting, know that God is in the waiting with you. You never wait alone and you do not have to wait without hope. God is working on your behalf while you’re waiting. So, take a deep breath and decide hold hands with Jesus while you wait. This time is not wasted. Start to see it as precious. Your waiting has a purpose. Lean in close and begin listening to what God is whispering while you wait.

CLOSING PRAYER

Father in heaven, seasons of waiting can be hard to bear. Increase my trust and reassure my heart right now that there is hope in You. Use this time of waiting in a positive way in my life and help me to keep my eyes fixed on you as you grow my faith day by day.
