Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his presence continually! - Psalms 105:4
One of the simple pleasures of living in my Minnesota home is watching the hummingbirds at my feeder off my dining room deck. They zoom in with their busy wings beating over 4,000 times per minute, making a low-toned hum that captures my attention. Then, hovering at the feeder, they dunk their long beaks into the sugary nectar and quickly flit off to their destination in the trees. They return again and again for nourishment throughout the day in a dance that makes up the rhythm of their lives.
The activity of these tiny birds creates a beautiful picture of what our lives should look like as believers in Christ. Our souls know that the source of our nourishment comes from the sweetness of our Savior. And turning to Him—not once, but throughout each day—provides all we need to grow and thrive in the lives we’ve been given. Through His Word and our times in His presence, prayer and worship we are strengthened and receive all we need. God invites us to return to Him continually in what becomes the rhythm of our own lives.
CLOSING PRAYER
Lord, help me to hunger for Your Word and thirst for Your presence. Teach me to turn to You as naturally and continually as these hummingbirds return to the source of their sweetness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
