The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves the crushed in spirit. - Psalms 34:18
If you’ve ever suddenly found yourself in the middle of a life-changing crisis you know that it can land in your lap at lightning speed, pierce your heart to the core and leave you gasping for breath. It’s like riding your bike on a beautiful spring day and rounding a corner only to hit an unforeseen patch of gravel. In an instant, you’re skidding across asphalt with your limbs bruised and your skin scraped-opened and bloodied.
As life would have it, we’ll all find ourselves there at some point. It may come in the form of a wounded relationship, the loss of a loved one, an unexpected diagnosis or shattered dreams. Jesus Himself told us that in this broken world we would have trouble. And so, when this occurs, how do we put a tourniquet on our hemorrhaging sorrow and find the strength to get back up?
The simple answer is that it is not simple—but it is real. Jesus opens His arms, His comfort and His peace when we need it most. We are free to cry and grieve at His feet, curl up in His embrace and stare into His loving eyes, worthy of our trust. He has promised to be close when we are brokenhearted and to walk with us in our darkest valleys, fighting on our behalf, working for our good, and always holding us tightly in His victorious hand. There is no simple fix for heartache—but there is a Savior who is passionate about us. He sees our affliction and understands the depth of our pain. He has captured our every tear and offers us hope and guidance through our agony. We only have to speak the name of Jesus and He will answer back with a thousand reverberating “I love you’s.”
CLOSING PRAYER
Jesus. We speak Your holy name over all that we are experiencing—our pain, our sorrow, and the shards of our broken hearts. You truly understand what we are going through like no one else can and we are grateful that you are with us minute by minute. Comfort us with your tender care and give us the strength we so desperately need. In your precious name we pray, Amen.
