I am the Lord, and I do not change… - Malachi 3:6
I am not a fan of change. I like a change of seasons and an occasional change of pace. But, overall, I’m fond of things that are consistent and certain…like buying the same brand of jeans year after year because you know they will always fit just right.
The reality though, is that much of life involves change. With technology, economies, fashions, and even aging, it can sometimes feel like everything around us is changing faster than a pit crew changes a tire in a NASCAR race. Or maybe you’ve encountered a life-altering change that suddenly dropped in like an uninvited guest. Change is inevitable and coping with it can be unsettling—even overwhelming.
Thankfully, in the midst of change, there is one certainty we can always rely on. God is unchanging. Who He is remains the same—same character, same promises, same grace, same love. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. The changes we face are no surprise to Him and He is with us as we deal with them, even working them for our ultimate good. We can rest in the certainty that He is still in charge.
His unchanging nature means we never have to be unsure of His abiding love for us and we have complete confidence in every one of His promises.
Our world is an ever-changing place. But, as followers of Jesus, we do not stand on shifting sand. We have assurance that our feet rest solidly on a bedrock of certainty, where there is no shadow of change whatsoever. There is unshakable security in our loving God.
CLOSING PRAYER
Father God, thank you for being my Rock when I face difficult changes. Thank you for Your unwavering character and never-ending love for me. Guide me through the changes I encounter and help me to trust you completely, knowing that You are the same today as You always have been and always will be in the days ahead. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
