Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken. - Psalm 55:22
Take a moment and ask yourself how much weight you’re currently carrying on your shoulders…
Emotional weight. You know—the worries, anxiety and concerns you’ve consistently taken on and now haul with you wherever you go. The kind that puts a pit in your stomach, robs you of your joy and keeps you up at night. It isn’t the kind of weight that shows up on the bathroom scale, but its heaviness is every bit as real and dangerous.
As God’s beloved creation, you were never meant to carry the weight of the world. Just like trying to hold up a massive stone with your bare hands. At first, adrenaline convinces you it’s possible. But eventually, your arms shake. Your knees buckle. And the stone crashes down—not because you didn’t try hard enough, but because human bones were never designed to be pillars.
God invites you to let Him be God. Let Him tend to the troubling, the overwhelming and the impossible. Cast your cares off your fragile frame and into the hands of those that hold the sun, the moon and the stars. Unlike pretending your concerns don’t exist, realize instead that caring about something is different than carrying the weight of it, something that God’s hands—gentle, comforting, and truly all-powerful—are meant to do. So trust God enough to cast your cares on Him. Then, with gratitude and thanksgiving, take a slow, deep breath and feel yourself getting lighter. Your circumstances may not have changed, but the weight on your shoulders certainly has.
CLOSING PRAYER
Father God, You know every worry I have and every anxious thought that torments me. Help me release every last one into Your sovereign hands with complete trust. Lift the weight from my shoulders and replace it with Your peace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
